Tucked away on a private lane amidst glorious Peak District scenery, Underleigh House is a Bed and Breakfast of exceptional quality. This former cottage and barn, dating from 1873, has been tastefully converted and is now the lovely home of Philip and Vivienne Taylor. There are five bedrooms - three doubles with en-suite WC and either shower or bath and two suites with their own lounges. There is also a large, comfortable, public lounge where guests can relax with a drink after a day out walking.

Underleigh has the prestigious ‘5 Star’ grading for guest accommodation. Already holding an Excellence for Breakfast award, (the AA's 'egg cup' accolade), the AA recently placed Underleigh House within the top 10% of its star rating - awarding it five yellow stars and the AA Highly Commended Award for Guest Accommodation. This is further endorsed by VisitBritain’s 'Gold Award’ and recommendations by independent publications such as the Good Hotel Guide. Underleigh was the winner of ‘Best Breakfast’ at the Derbyshire Food and Drink Awards in 2004 and has twice won the Gold Award in the Bed and Breakfast category at the East Midlands Enjoy Excellence Awards (2009 and 2006).  In 2009 we were also finalists in the ‘Friendliest Landlady’ category in the AA Bed & Breakfast Awards. Underleigh holds a Peak District Environmental Quality Mark and is a Peak District Cuisine member.

Evening meals are not available at Underleigh but numerous eating places in Hope, Castleton and Hathersage can be recommended. All rooms have superb views over the surrounding countryside or over the garden which, in summer, abounds with colourful tubs, hanging baskets, roses and fuschias. Underleigh is set in a quiet location off the road to Edale, about 1 mile from Hope's historic village centre. Nestling under Losehill, it is in the heart of the Peak National Park. It is easily accessible to the area's major attractions including the show caverns and village of Castleton and the stately homes and manor houses of Chatsworth, Eyam, Haddon and Hardwick.

Breakfast is served in 'house party' style around the oak refectory table in the charming beamed and stone flagged dining room. On offer is a hearty English breakfast or a wide choice of alternatives for the smaller appetite or vegetarians. Underleigh was the winner of Derbyshire Foods 'Best Breakfast Award' in 2004.

Magnificent walks are available from our front door... Philip and I can point you in the right direction and we can also supply the maps. We look forward to welcoming you in the very near future to Underleigh.

Finding Us

Come into the village of Hope on the A6187 (formerly A625) to the Parish Church. Opposite the church (and with the 'Old Hall' public house on the corner), take the road to Edale for about two thirds of a mile (past the 'Cheshire Cheese' public house) until you see the derestriction road sign indicating the end of the 30mph zone. Just beyond this, take the lane to the left of the facing house (at Underleigh's sign) and continue for one third of a mile, keeping to the right all the way. Underleigh is the first property on the right and the entrance to the car park is directly before the house.
